Regenerative Medicine – Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine is a relatively new field in medicine that focuses on repairing and replacing damaged tissues and organs due to the natural process of aging, disease, or trauma. This allows the body to use its natural power and ability to heal in an accelerated manner. Regenerative therapy involves the use of biological material that can be directly delivered to injured tissues to promote healing. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is delivered to the target areas using the same kinds of needles and x-ray equipment that would be used for traditional pain management solutions. The biologic material helps to heal the body at the cellular level – root cause.

What issues can regenerative medicine treat?

Our use and focus of biological material is for orthopedic and musculoskeletal issues, such as osteoarthritis of the knee, hip, and shoulder. PRP can be helpful for tennis elbow, rotator cuff injuries, plantar fasciitis, and spine conditions, such as, degenerative disc and facet disease. PRP has also successfully restored hair follicles for those with thinning hair.

What is involved with regenerative medicine?

Designed to regenerate, rebuild, and repair damaged tissues that reduce pain and fix injuries, regenerative injections are used in joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. PRP is derived from the patient’s own body and repair structures to heal the root problem while reducing inflammation and pain. The blood is extracted and spun in our clinic to separate the platelet rich plasma from the blood. The platelet rich plasma, full of stem cells, is then injected into the injured area. The area will then begin to regenerate.

Who is a good candidate for regenerative medicine?

Patients that have tried and failed conservative measures such as chiropractic treatment, physical therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, home exercise programs, medication, etc. and who are wanting to avoid surgery.

Why choose regenerative therapy?

Greatly reduces the need for surgery by treating injured tissues before the damage progresses any further. The goal of regenerative therapy is to heal injured tissue and not just mask the pain. Regenerative therapy has helped many professionals and athletes heal rapidly from an injury and return to full activity. Regenerative therapy procedures are ideal for individuals who face ailments such as back pain, knee arthritis, tendonitis, ligament injuries, arthritis of the knee, hip or shoulder rotator cuff tears, tennis elbow, hip bursitis, patellar tendon injury, plantar fasciitis, and Achilles tendon injuries.

What is the recovery time?

Although recovery times vary, most patients can expect to see improvement in their pain and mobility within 4 to 6 weeks after treatment. Patients will continue to see improvement in pain and mobility for up to 12 months. Regenerative therapy patients experience rapid recovery and are back to their daily activities very quickly.

What are the benefits of regenerative medicine?

Blood plasma are not manufactured in a laboratory. The biological material is from your own body. This means that there is no rejection, no allergic reactions, and does not negatively impact the endocrine system. In fact, current research indicates that cellular therapy has the potential to generate a positive effect on the organs involved in the endocrine system. Long-term use of cortisone is known to have many potential negative effects, such as increasing blood sugar glucose, obesity, osteoporosis, skin changes, and loss of the body’s ability to produce natural cortisone from the adrenal glands. These things do not happen with PRP. Regenerative medicine solutions work well with nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide and nitrous oxide oral supplementation – both help to augment the activation of tissue resident stem cells (these are stem cells that are present throughout the body in various organs).

No surgery, no medication, and no hospital stays are just a few of the reasons why thousands have chosen regenerative therapies over traditional methods. Most procedures are performed in less than an hour with very little post recovery. Many patients are able to return to work the next day. Because most regenerative procedures use your own body’s platelets and cells for healing, it’s safe and natural!
